WHICH UNIVERSITY WOULD YOU REFER JOINING AFTER FINISHING HIGH SCHOOL?

In today's society a college education is an essential part of pursuing a career.  While in college a person can determine his strengths and weaknesses in whatever path he decides to take in life.  A college education is also the first step in being self-sufficient and living by yourself.  College life also gives a person a chance to express his ingenious and creative abilities and to supplement the skills that he learned in high school.  City University will give me an unprecedented opportunity to achieve these goals and to reach a new plateau in my scholarly studies.

In my life I plan to pursue a career in the aerospace field.  To get a job in this field one needs a college education and City University fits the bill.  Its curriculum and accomplished professors will give me the chance to achieve my goal.  Each of the independent colleges of the university system is highly specialized and particular to its own field of training.  This will help applicants like me concentrate on my specific career path.  I have visited the university campus twice and each time I have been impressed by the devotion of the faculty to ensure that the student's educational needs are met and surpassed.  I perceive that the university is concerned about the educational well-being of its students.  This is exemplified by the abundant tutoring opportunities that the university offers.  Not only is the staff exceptional, City University has phenomenal technology.

City University is on the cutting edge of technology which is indispensable in the aerospace field. The EOS computing environment is a substructure for building a bridge to the future.  This system will give me many opportunities to use its resources to intensify my skills while pursuing my occupation.  Having access to millions of computers all over the world, with the information I need at my fingertips will propel me to a higher level of intellectual aptness.  The immense number of computer clusters available at the university enables a student to arm himself with the knowledge needed to aid him in any project or endeavor that he may attempt.

In conclusion, City University would be the ideal institution to pursue my dreams and ambitions to become an aerospace engineer.  It goes above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that its students become useful members of society.  As I commence my journey into independent life City University will be my guide making sure that I follow the right track into the future.

Besides, I’m telling you – Writing Practice: Conjunctions of Addition

Any idea why you use words like: and, also, too, next, besides, first (second, etc.), further, furthermore, in addition, in the first place and moreover?
The above words are conjunctions. You use them to introduce to your reader that you’re going to add more information.
You can use most of these words at different places in your sentence, so in that sense they’re nice and easy. There are some exceptions:
You put “too” at the end of a sentence.
Here is an example:
Johan is coming to the party, and Marvin is, too.
You can put “also” on the end of the sentence, too, but only Americans do that.
Here is an example:
Johan is coming to the party, and Marvin is, also.
Otherwise, “also” is found in the middle of a sentence.
Example:
John is coming to the party, and also Marvin is coming.
Or:
John is coming to the party, and Marvin is also coming.

The other conjunctions will more typically come at the beginning of the sentence.
doctor
Now I’ll give an example or two of each conjunction, and after that you can make your own sentences in an exercise.
And
connects two things or facts:
Jane is a nurse and Beatrice is a doctor.
Next
introduces something that follows or comes later:
First, the Duke of Marlborough entered the room. Next, the Earl of Sandwich and his wife entered.
Or you could write it also with “next” at the end:
The Earl of Sandwich and his wife entered next.
Besides, further, furthermore, in addition and moreover
They all mean that something is added:
There are two lemon trees in the garden. Besides, there are some strawberry beds.
There are two lemon trees in the garden. Further, there are some strawberry beds.
There are two lemon trees in the garden. Furthermore, there are some strawberry beds.
There are two lemon trees in the garden. In addition, there are some strawberry beds.
There are two lemon trees in the garden. Moreover, there are some strawberry beds.
You may put “besides” at the end of the sentence:
There are two lemon trees in the garden and some strawberry beds besides.
“In addition” can also be put at the end of the sentence:
There are two lemon trees in the garden and some strawberry beds in addition.

First (second, etc.) and in the first place (in the second place, etc.)
are used to add information in a certain order:
First, he put his music stand in the right place. Second, he placed the score on it. Third, he tuned his violin for about fifty minutes.
We don’t go to the theatre often. In the first place, we live too far from the city. Second, we’re couch potatoes who like to watch TV.

Important note: if you place these conjunctions at the beginning of your sentence, you should put a comma (,) after them. Have a look again at the examples above.

Exercise
Put the two sentences in the right order, and use the conjunction in brackets ().
The first one has been done for you.
  1. One more manager was recruited this week. Last week two new team leaders have been recruited. (in addition)
Last week two new team leaders have been recruited. In addition, one more manager was recruited this week.

  2. The pupils complain that you are cruel. We don’t need you in our school. Your methods of teaching arithmetic are strange and ineffective. (first, second)
  3. I plan to stay in Florence on my next trip to Italy. I will visit Rome, Sienna, Pisa and Venice, all in the same week! (furthermore)
  4. You’re a good friend. You can keep a secret. You’re fun to be with. (in the first place, in the second place)
  5. Prepare the dough for the cake. Mix the tofu with the sugar, chocolate chips, cocoa powder and blackberries. (next)
  6. He knows five languages. Kenny has four years of experience in an international environment. (besides)
  7. I think the red dress suits you better. It’s warmer, which is good as the evenings are getting chilly. (also)

Life in the City

Life in the city is full of activity. Early in the morning  hundreds of people rush out of their homes in the manner ants do when their nest is broken. Soon the streets are full of traffic.
Shops and offices open, students flock to their schools and the day’s work begins. The city now throb with activity, and it is full of noise. Hundreds of sight-seers tourists and others visit many place of interest in the city while businessmen from various parts of the world arrive to transact business.
The towards evening, the offices and day schools begin to close. Many of the shops too close. There is now a rush for buses and other means of transport. Everyone seems to be in a hurry to reach home. As a result of this rush, many accidents occur. One who has not been to the city before finds it hard to move about at this time. Soon, however, there is almost no activity in several parts of the city. These parts are usually the business centers.
With the coming of night, another kind of activity begins. The streets are now full of colorful lights. The air is cooler and life becomes more leisurely. People now seek entertainment. Many visit the cinemas, parks, and clubs, while others remain indoors to watch television or listen to the radio. Some visit friends and relatives and some spend their time reading books and magazines. Those who are interested in politics discuss the latest political developments. At the same time, hundreds of crimes are committed. Thieves and robbers who wait for the coming of night become active, and misfortune descends upon many. For the greed of a few, many are killed, and some live in constant fear. To bring criminals to justice, the officers of the law are always on the move.
Workers and others who seek advancement in their careers attend educational institutions which are open till late in the night. Hundreds of them sit for various examinations every year. The facilities and opportunities that the people in the city have to further their studies and increase their knowledge of human affairs are indeed many. As a result, the people of the city are usually better informed than those of the village, where even a newspaper is sometimes difficult to get.
The city could, therefore, be described as a place of ceaseless activity. Here, the drama of life is enacted every day.

So sánh
